How to stop breaking my filters

One of the most common questions I get asked is about our filter system, so in this weeks tips video I show you the filter system that I use and how it works.

For those of you familiar with our DVDs you will also know how regularly I seem to break my polarisers! So I have a new tip to prevent that from happening ;)

Enjoy,

Karl

Hi!

One question.. How on earth do you combine a square PL with a ND grad? This won’t work, because the holder must be rotated to get the PL effect?

I thought lee foundation kit wit a 105mm circular PL was/is the way to go?

I rotate the polariser filter in my hand first while looking through it, then I slide it into the holder, it’s usually “upright” one way or the other rather than an angle to polarize a sky. The spinning circular attachment is an option but I don’t like the large gap between this and the next filter and it’s completely overpriced for what it is.

Hello, Karl, I watched some other videos on how you use filters, inspiring!
I haven’t use filters in creative way so to speak, only used cheap UV filters as protection for my lenses. I am thinking to get square glass filters in the future for my landscape photography (summer-time!), question for you…
Could you please tell the brand name of filter holders you are using?
thank you in advance!

I just purchased your DVDs, they’re great for someone like me who wants to set their work apart. I have a couple circular filters and I want to move to square, but all I can find are cheap ($16) filter holders. These can’t be serious holders for that price can they?

I second the previous Yurly’s question. Could you give us a brand and model to go on much like you did with tripods?

Hi Karl

Love your work! I have all your DVD’s and learnt a lot from them. I wanted to ask you about filters.

I have the Cokin p series and use a circular PL as well as square ND and NDG. I notice I get some vignetting when I zoom out and I hate it :( Is the filter holder you have 100mm? I also notice you have a square PL. I find these really hard to find. Any tips? I live in Japan, so not easy to find here!

Do you get any vignetting with 100mm filters?

Thank you

    Hi David,

As this is a customer support question please email us at contact@karltaylorphotography.co.uk where we will offer you full customer support on any question related to our training and the equipment we use and how we use it.

Unfortunately we now have to be strict on ensuring that we are giving our customers the best information and use of our time and therefore you will be asked to provide your customer ID number or details of where you purchased our products. Unfortunately we have to do this now as we often get people who have illegally copied or downloaded our material asking us for support on questions relating to our training. As a small business you can understand that we cant afford for people to steal from us let alone help them if they have a question (we are not Warner Bros and piracy does hurt us!). I’m not saying your one of those people, only that for this sort of question it needs to come through by email and we will help you to our utmost.

    Many thanks for your understanding
    Karl.
